The Baptism of Christ - Bartolome Murillo

“The Baptism of Christ” by Bartolome Esteban Murillo, 1655.

Jesus answered, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.’
— John 3:5

Baptism is the foundation of the Christian life and the gateway to the life in grace. It has the effects of uniting us to the Body of Christ (the Church), making us an adopted child of God, cleansing us from all sin, giving the Sanctifying Grace that promises us eternal life, and uniting us to the mission of Jesus Christ. All of that is simply to say that is an amazing rite and a joy to celebrate! It is truly one of the greatest gifts of God to us.
