Friday July 25: Parish Movie Night, 5-8 pm
Join us in the parish hall to watch Lilies of the Field, the 1963 comedy drama based on a novel by Catholic writer William E. Barrett. It is a family friendly film and appropriate for all ages. Sidney Potier won the Oscar for Best Actor in his portrayal of Homer Smith, a U.S. GI and itinerant handyman who comes to the aid of five refugee nuns from East Germany living in the Arizona desert. His raw talents as an architect and the sisters’ need for a chapel converge. Language, culture, and faith differences challenge the relationship; a lack of resources threatens the project. Eventually community-wide participation brings transformative results.
