Lay Missionaries of Charity
The Movement of the Lay Missionaries of Charity (L.M.C.) was founded in 1984 by Fr. Sebastian Vazhakala, M.C., in the presence of St. Teresa of Calcutta as cofounder, who very deeply influenced the movement as part of the Missionaries of Charity (M.C.) family. The L.M.C.s consist of married and single men and women who are not yet holy but want to become holy in the heart of the world by doing ordinary things with extraordinary love in the M.C. spirit, charism, and way of life, as far as their state of life permits. They belong to the M.C. family with the same vows of poverty, (conjugal) chastity, obedience, and wholehearted and free service to the poorest of the poor, beginning with their own families. The L.M.C.’s vows are juridically private.
If you are interested in joining the L.M.C.s, you are invited to come and see what they do. Every first Saturday of the month, they attend Holy Mass at 8:30 am at St. Agnes Catholic Church. They then meet for formation and adoration (including the Rosary and the Divine Office) at the M.C. shelter. For more information please contact Donna Davis at dee2udav@att.net.
Holiness is not a luxury of a few. It is everyone’s duty: yours and mine.—St. Teresa of Calcutta
